Need to ship your car?

Don’t make the mistake of getting on the Internet and giving all your shipping information out to any company that has an Internet connection. Most of those companies are known as “Brokers”. The “Broker” will usually quote you an unrealistically low price, and require you to put up a substantial deposit in order to “reserve” your service dates.  After receiving your deposit, the “Broker” will then “post” your shipping information as well as the low price on the Internet, to see if a car carrier company will pick up your vehicle. If a company accepts the load, they will usually arrive at your residence, load up your vehicle, and then tell you “I can’t meet the price that you were quoted, the new price is: $_____, which is usually two to three times what the “Broker” quoted you. Now you really don’t have a choice, your vehicle is already loaded and the driver has you “over a barrel”.  If you call the “Broker” and actually have him answer the phone, he will say that the deposit is his commission, and that the “Broker” has no relationship with the car carrier service, and basically “you are on your own”.

Make sure you deal with a reputable car carrier company.  Columbine Moving & Storage, as an Agent for Allied Van Lines, Inc, in Western Colorado, can arrange to get your car shipped.  Our company will get several quotes from vehicle shipping companies that we are associated with and have used over our 34 years in business.  The shipping prices will depend upon, but are not limited to: the miles between origin and destination, weight of the car, model, dimensions of the vehicle, covered transport or open transport.  You can depend upon paying at least $1000 to ship coast to coast.  Adding door to door service will also increase the cost.  If you can drop off the vehicle at the warehouse and pick it up at the terminal at the destination, this could save some money.  When shipping a car, the transportation companies will not allow anything to be placed inside the car.  So don’t leave a suitcase or box in your car, this could delay the shipping of the vehicle.
